조세핀 월 [Josephine Wall]
An Even Smaller World
At the bottom of an enchanted garden, an inquisitive fairy child peeps into a convolvulus flower only to discover a wondrous new world where the inhabitants are even smaller than she. Inside the blossom, the mermaid and woman are immersed in their own little universe, completely unaware of their fairy spectator.Like these enchanted beings, we are living in our own little world within other worlds, and what is large and small ultimately depends on how we look at life |
Bubble Flower
From her enchanted flower of bubbles, the fairy blows fragments of fairyland into the mortal world, reminding us that a touch of magic can make any day more beautiful. Visions of a flying galleon, a cat with wings and a magnificent unicorn, are carried on the wind to far off places, Encased in their delicate multicoloured orbs, they float effortlessly, and yet like our own fantasies are so vulnerable, and can be gone in an instant. |
Ferry to Fairyland
The little fairy nestles safely in her delicate leaf craft and dreams of her busy day on her journey back to fairyland. With magical candles to light her way, she is gently carried home along rainbow currents. All around her water spirits are hiding as they watch over and protect their sleeping friend. |
Tigermoth
With a single beat of his powerful wings, the Tigermoth carries his fairychild passenger through golden clouds high over the mystical cities of faraway lands. Aboard the powerful Tigermoth, the joyful rider is gently carried far higher than any delicate fairy wings could go. Magical lands and their guardians are enveloped in the Tigermoth's mighty wings, protecting the tiny traveller, while cloud spirits keep watch from below. |
Time Flies
As the spirit of wild flowers, wrapped in her countryside cloak, gently blows soft breezes to encourage the 'nature's clocks' to spread their seeds across the land, each little seed is transformed into a tiny fairy. The soft down becomes their delicate wings as they are borne on the wind to far off places to carry out their vital task, spreading the seed of hope far and wide.A new generation is 'borne' on the wind to continue life's cycle, as it has been, and will be for all time.Often when children see a dandelion seed go floating by they exclaim in great excitement "Look! A fairy - a fairy"! |
Nature Boy
The little boy of the woods listens to the baby blue tit as his other animal friends gather round. He has found some honeysuckle to drink the nectar if the White Admiral butterfly does not drink it first! A collection of 'woodland treasures' adorn his neck, including his favourite 'lucky' stone and a precious one. The forest spirits amongst the trees, and round about, guide him and protect him in his leafy paradise. |
Butterfly Tree
Deep in the heart of the countryside two moss maidens look on in awe as a miracle of creation takes place. The spirit of the tree watches as her leafy offspring take flight. Each golden leaf transforms into a beautiful butterfly as it is shaken gently from the boughs.Woodland fairies seize the moment to soar gracefully over the countryside nestled safely in the delicate wings. |
Caught by a Sunbeam
Nestling her head on a cobweb pillow the pretty fairy drifts into slumber, after a hectic night of revelry, at a celebration of spring party with the elves and pixies. Many of her friends are hiding nearby! |
Surprise Visitors
Alice can't believe her eyes! Opening the door to her dolls house she finds a family of fairies have made a surprise visit. They make themselves at home, some having breakfast while others flit about, and one is left to clear up the fairy dust left over from a night of magic. They only allow themselves to be seen when they know the viewer has a golden heart and would never betray their presence. Alice makes them welcome and hopes they will be staying for some time. |
Titania and Oberon 2
The inspiration for this image is drawn from the masterly writings of William Shakespeare. Whether he envisioned them the same, I will never know. The King & Queen of fairyland are soaring high with their winged entourage. With the beating of many wings and the heady fragrance of woodland flowers they gather for a moonlit revel. |
Fairy's Fairy
As this enchanting little creature examines the tiny look-alike in her hands, she discovers yet another even smaller likeness, so beautiful and perfect, in the delicate hands of her twin. With joy, she sees yet another and another tiny fairy just like herself, her delight being magically repeated into infinity. |
Oak Fairy
Much is golden in the world of the Oak Fairy, whose leafy attire and headdress are adorned with acorns and oak apples from her home, the Mighty Oak. All around her, she is befriendedBy other creatures of the forest who, like herself, are innocent and free and live at one with nature. |
Beachcomber Fairy
The tiny fairy patrols her sandy world gathering the harvest of wonderful objects that she finds so irresistible. Treasures such as multicoloured shells of all shapes and sizes, tide smoothed fragments of glass and a variety of seaweed to make her clothes. And then - her greatest find of all, a beautiful conch shell from which emerged an enchanting mermaid, even smaller than she. It will be nice to have a companion to spend some happy hours excitedly sorting the bounty of the seashore. |
Where Moonbeams Fall
In the soft muted colours of the night, the ethereal fairy dances among the moonbeams, scattering stardust in her play. Serenity and inner joy are reflected in the radiance of her expression and the lightness of her fairy ballet as she dances in communion with the universe. |
Silken Spells
This fairy loves to whirl and pirouette on the finest of cobweb silk, especially when moonbeams reflect their rainbow colours all around her gossamer wings. After her dancing is done, the wind carries her home on a playful breeze. Each miracle of nature's beauty fills her heart with joy. |
Magpie Fairy
I enjoyed painting this work, which I think of as the "Magpie Fairy" because just as the bird is attracted to bright shiny objects which he collects, so to my fairy has been attracted to various everyday objects. Discarded as rubbish, or accidentally lost, she finds them irresistible and adorns herself with them. Obviously because she is very tiny, the objects are depicted larger than life. I had great fun deciding which objects may have been discarded by humans and would be small enough and interesting enough for a fairy to collect. As you can see there are many items, from safety pins and paper clips to stamps and a bottle top, changed from the original wording "Dry" to read "Fey", obviously she felt it was more appropriate, in addition to many forest items such as acorns and oak leaves, she has nuts for rings and of course, last Christmas's broken 'fairy' light bulbs for earrings. Not a traditional fairy but rather a streetwise', happy-go-lucky, modern fairy. |
I think I saw a fairy
In a "Magical Moment" - nearly hidden by nettles, wild briar and foxgloves did I espy a fleeting glimpse of gossamer wing? Was there a little face with a special "look"? Was the "look" surprise, or could it be a secret smile? Then in the blinking of an eye there was nothing there, only a spangle in the air, and a honeysuckle petal lazily floating down. |
Surfer's Dream
Riding the perfect wave is every surfer’s dream, and this fairy surfer is no different, except that she is riding flying fish, and is gliding on a cosmic wave. Her wave contains a galaxy, and a myriad stars light her way as her dream is realised. |
The Forest Fairy
In a sunlit glade, far from human sight the wood fairy happily gathers wild anemones. Full of the joys of spring, she adores the suns warm rays and delights in the freedom of Nature's woodland bounty. |
Up, Up and Away
High above the countryside a curious fairy, with a desire to find out what lies beyond her woodland home, is being towed by her butterfly playmates. To her delight she finds that with their help she can fly even higher than her tiny wings would allow. Their wings beat in unison, and gently take her to many far off lands. |
